Notes on Dharmesh Shah's Podcast About AI Agents
AI won't replace thinking, prompts are source code, and every business solves a market inefficiency.
Just finished listening to Dharmesh Shah on the Marketing Against the Grain podcast.
First, the thumbnail is a little misleading, as you don’t quite get to learn how to build an AI agency in one night… though all in all, a very interesting conversation!
A few points I really like from the pod:
- AI (or LLMs in particular) won’t replace thinking, but will help people who can think logically. “If you can think coherent analytical thoughts and know a particular customer domain and know their use cases, you [will] solve those problems.” AI lowers the barrier to entry, but also increases the market. So it shouldn’t worry you if you can think through your problem systematically. It’ll dilute your programming expertise though, as LLMs can now generate high-quality, working code. In case you’re wondering how good Claude 3.5 Sonnet is, it’s REALLY GOOD. This week I added a functioning sliding table overlay to my provincial database web app. It took me 15 mins…
- When you develop AI agents, the prompt is essentially your source code. Say your AI agent is really good at some tasks (like creating copy for your business), and you plan to sell or monetize this agent. You need to think about how much you’re giving away. One approach is to share a basic version of the prompt publicly, then have a layered system for more advanced features.
- Non-AI related, but successful businesses are essentially all solving market inefficiency. By definition, an efficient market is one where any potential transaction that could happen, actually happens. These can come in different flavors: buyers cannot find sellers, buyers don’t trust sellers, buyers and sellers can’t settle on a fair price. eBay solves the buyer discovery problem, connecting buyers and sellers in extremely niche markets. In the same way, Google solves the inefficiency by connecting people who want to read articles on very niche topics.
So if you can spot any inefficiency in the market, AI, LLMs, and AI agents now allow you to rapidly provide quick prototype solutions for these problems!
